Adult Education

If you’re looking for English-as-a-Second-Language programs, GED and continuing education classes or computer classes, we’re here to help.

A good education is the first step to self-sufficiency, but for many New Yorkers, an education is not easily attainable. It may be the cost that’s holding you back, or maybe it’s a matter of scheduling or family considerations. Whatever the reason, The Salvation Army recognizes these concerns and works tirelessly to provide everyone an education, regardless of their circumstances.

Because New York City is home to a substantial immigrant population, English-as-a-Second-Language classes are an important Salvation Army service in our area. Men and women from all over the world take advantage of the ESL programs that meet at our community centers, many hoping to someday leverage their fluency for wider civic participation and to get a higher-paying job.

Most centers also offer general continuing education classes and high school diploma equivalency classes (GEDs). For those seeking to obtain their GED, or for those unable to enter or complete college courses, these programs are invaluable pathways to successful and financially stable lives.
