SALVATION ARMY SOUNDS NASDAQ OPENING AND CLOSING BELLS ON CHRISTMAS EVE

Majors Philip and Susan Wittenberg, Divisional Secretary and Assistant Women’s Ministries Secretary, for The Salvation Army Greater New York Division, sound the opening bell at the Nasdaq Market Site in Times Square on the morning of Christmas Eve 2015, as Salvation Army musicians and other guests look on. Representatives of The Salvation Army would return to the site for the 1 p.m. closing bell-ringing as well, once again sounded by the Wittenbergs.

In remarks leading up to the opening bell-ringing, Majors Wittenberg took the opportunity to thank New Yorkers for their generous support of The Salvation Army’s holiday-giving campaigns this Christmas season, while encouraging continued support of The Salvation Army’s Red Box Campaign throughout the year.

“So I invite you to go to www.SalvationArmyNY.org and join our Red Box Campaign, where $65 will buy a family a box of food, provide a child with day care, or a senior citizen with a safe place to be during the day, and so much more,” said Major Philip Wittenberg. “The Salvation Army, just last year in the Greater New York area, provided 500,000 nights of shelter; 600,000 days of child care; and 2.3 million meals, and that’s just in the Greater New York area.

“So again I invite you to go to www.SalvationArmyNY.org and join our Army. And again, thank you, Nasdaq, for this great opportunity!”

“Soon you will no longer see the bell ringers on the street corners and in the market places, but there are other ways to support the ongoing, year-round work [of The Salvation Army], not only in the Manhattan area, but Westchester County, Long Island, and far beyond.”
